The Lake has over 540 miles of shoreline, totaling over 26,650 acres of surface area. Lake Russell offers 21 public boat launches, 2 marinas and 3 restaurants offering concessions. Lake Russell is a full recreational lake, allowing jet skis, water skiing, swimming, tubing, boat docks, fishing, and other water activities.  The lake is a fisherman’s paradise since it abounds with many species of fish. Fishing tournaments are held year round on the lake.

Lake Russell serves at the border of South Carolina and Georgia.  It was created in 1984 and can only be drawn 5 feet by the US Army Corps of Engineers mandate.  The lake level remains relatively stable throughout the year, normally fluctuating no more than 2 to 3 feet from the normal pool elevation of 475’ above sea leve. Lake Russell is one of the few lakes in the South that remain undeveloped.  With the exception of several landings, Beaverdam Marina and Richard B. Russell State Park, the scenery consists of little more than the trees that border the lake.  This beautiful wilderness area is aggressively managed to protect against development of any kind and thereby providing an abundant wildlife habitat.  Many restrictions to property owner keep the shoreline uncluttered.  You won't find houses, boat docks, stores or anything else here. There is a large buffer area around the lake averaging 200-250 ft in width, which means no storm water pollution and mud in the lake. Private shoreline use may be permitted on Thurmond and Hartwell Lakes but Federal regulations prohibit private use of public lands surrounding Lake Russell. Because of these restrictions Lake Russell offers a quieter recreation experience in a pristine environment.

The very limited development is likely due to a very small amount of private land available. This results in a quaint rural setting in the middle of small towns with adequate goods and services that we all enjoy. Large cities such as Atlanta and Greenville SC are 60-90 minutes away in driving time. The shoreline displays custom built homes, ranging in price from $80,000 to $250,000 for non-dockable lots. Water access lots range in price from $30,000 to $50,000.

Lake Russell, South Carolina has many beautiful communities located along its shore.  Many communities here are luxurious and will include large estate style lots and houses built by some of the area's leading custom home builders.  Home architectural guidelines are in place to ensure that proper homes will meet the overall theme of the neighborhood.  Precautions have been taken to keep the land in its pristine state. And to further protect the value of this community, certain subdivision deed restrictions apply, designed to assure the quality of the natural environment for years to come.  Each individual property is unique and must be visited in person to truly appreciate.   Many people who have looked at SC lake properties found that they actually loved North Carolina lake properties even more!

Three types of properties here include: Lake front or water front, lake view or water view, and lake access or water access property. Lakefront or waterfront property is defined as having the lake out your back door.  Your property borders the lake and you live on the lake.  Lakeview or water view property is defined where you have a view of the lake, but your property doesn't border the lake.  Lake access or water access property is defined as having access to the lake (your property doesn't border the lake, and you don't see the lake). With lake access or water access property, you are just a short walk or drive away from enjoying the lake.  Whatever type of lifestyle you desire, we'll be able to help!
